Contributing to achieving carbon neutrality is part of Hera's "purpose". During the Shareholders' Meeting held on 28 May 2021, in fact, Hera introduced the concept of "Purpose" in its Articles of Association, focusing on the creation of shared value. In particular, an additional paragraph has been added to Article 3 to explain the corporate purpose, i.e. the objectives that the multi-utility aims to achieve in carrying out its business activity, and thus reaffirm its commitment to sustainability, which has characterized it since its formation. The new paragraph reads "(...) the Company organizes and carries out business activities that are also aimed at fostering social equity and contributing to achieving carbon neutrality, regenerating resources, and improving the resilience of the system of services managed, so as to benefit its customers, the ecosystem of its service area, and future generations (Hera for the Planet, for People and for Prosperity)"..
Pursuing carbon neutrality is one of the areas in which Hera creates shared value with actions that involve the Group's assets and processes and also customers, suppliers, public administration and partner companies and that, overall, range from promoting energy efficiency to energy transition and renewables.
Reducing our greenhouse gas emissions by 37% by 2030 (compared to 2019) is one of our objectives on which we want to report clearly and transparently. Our target has been validated by the prestigious international Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) network, a joint venture between CDP, the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute, and the WWF. Specifically, Hera's commitment aims at the "Well below 2 °C" objective, which aims to keep the increase in global temperature to well below 2 °C compared to pre-industrial levels, in line with the Paris Climate Agreement.
