We are the nation's second-largest operator in the integrated water service and (through aqueducts, sewers and purification plants) we distribute excellent quality drinking water, returning it clean to the environment.
From harvesting to distribution, the water we supply is safe because we treat it carefully. More than 2,600 analyses per day confirm this.
In today's context, where the demand for water is increasing and climate change is affecting the amount available, protecting this resource is crucial. This is why we dedicate large investments to the water sector every year, working on research and innovation projects and adopting technological solutions that enable reduced water consumption, in line with the circular economy and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Furthermore, we constantly monitor our networks to reduce water leaks.

State-of-the-art installations and owners
We are equipped with a strong plant system that enables us to make water available for domestic and industrial use. To make it potable, the water is treated in our drinking water plants.
We provide water service through 394 drinking water plants and purification service through 857 treatment plants.
The search for water leaks is now more efficient, thanks to cosmic rays
We continue to experiment with a technology that allows us to control significantly larger portions of the network than traditional systems, with the advantage of being able to use it with any vehicle. Through cosmic rays, the detection of leaks makes it possible to repair them even more quickly, recovering significant amounts of water.

The IQFlow2200 meters are able to listen to the network thanks to a built-in hydrophone, which detects the noise associated with any water leakage. By placing them in strategic sections of the network, continuous monitoring is possible. In the event of system anomalies, the meters send graphs with different alarm levels, allowing a water leak to be detected and technicians and users to be alerted.

Thanks to its laboratories and the innovative Remote Control Centre, we guarantee specific water safety checks every day.
HeraTech laboratories
The safety of high quality water, thanks to the controls carried out by the Heratech Laboratories Our technological heart is Heratech, a company that manages the work of all network services for both customers and for the Group and that deals with the design and construction of plants and networks. Heratech Laboratories, scientific centers of excellence in Italy, represent one of its souls.
HeraTech remote control center
One of the other "souls" of Heratech is the Remote Control Centre in Forlì, a multi-specialised centre, the only one of its kind in Italy. Here aqueducts, gas and district heating systems and pipelines of the Group are monitored in real time (24 hours a day) in all areas served by Hera, from Trieste to Rimini. The remote control room also acts as a call centre assisting the Rapid Response Services.
