Regulatory context

The regulatory framework

Our research and innovation projects exceed quality standards and embrace the latest developments in terms of the Integrated Water Service. These include the application of Water Safety Plans, European quality control protocols for water intended for consumption.

Back in 2018, we became one of the first businesses in Italy to adopt these guidelines in two plants. Thanks to this trial, we were able to acquire the skills needed to respect the new provisions in advance and extend them to all the other waterworks.

Our Water Safety Plans thus exceed the standards required by the Water Service regulations, governed at national level by the Autorità di Regolazione per Energia Reti e Ambiente (Energy Networks and Environment Regulation Authority - ARERA).

ARERA carries out regulation and control activities to guarantee the promotion of competition, the efficiency of public utility services and protection of the interests of users and consumers.

At local level, the Agenzia territoriale dell’Emilia-Romagna per i servizi idrici e i rifiuti (Emilia-Romagna Agency for Water and Waste Services - ATERSIR) is responsible for service and investment planning, regulation and management control.
