The Group’s focus on energy efficiency is reflected by having achieved ISO 50001 certification for the energy management systems for eight companies of the Group: AcegasApsAmga Spa, AcegasApsAmga Servizi Energetici, Aresgas, Hera Spa, Hera Luce, Hera Servizi Energia, Inrete Distribuzione Energia, and Marche Multiservizi. Also, Herambiente achieved ISO 50001 certification for some of its plants.
The energy improvement plans drawn up since 2014 as part of energy management systems envisaged achieving the reduction of energy consumption by 3% (compared to 2013) by 2017. As a result of the positive results it has achieved, Hera has set increasingly challenging targets: the Group's business plan envisages that by 2030, measures shall be implemented to save 10% over the 2013 consumption levels (6.5% by 2023).
The objective is calculated as the average of the objectives that Hera Spa, InRete, AcegasApsAmga, and Marche Multiservizi have defined as part of their certification schemes.
To date, important energy savings have been achieved in the water cycle, both on the purification and drinking water sides. Major efficiency improvement has also been achieved for district heating, where the measures mainly affect the optimisation of sources and more effective utilisation of the best-performing systems.
The approx. 300 measures implemented by the end of 2019, included in the Energy Improvement Plan since 2014, saved over 11,700 toe (more than 491 thousand GJ), equal to 5.1% of 2013 consumption, reaching the target set for 2020 early. The more than 340 measures identified and that at 31 December 2019 are included in the improvement plans of Hera Spa, InRete, AcegasApsAmga and Marche Multiservizi will reduce energy consumption by over 13,000 toe, 5.9% of 2013 consumption.
The measures identified in the action plan are mainly focused on the water cycle where measures are planned that amount to more than 53% of overall energy saving.
MEASURES ALREADY COMPLETED OR PLANNED HAVE REDUCED OR WILL REDUCE CONSUMPTION BY 13,740 TOE, RESULTING IN SAVINGS OF ABOUT EURO 11.8 MILLION, 5.9 MILLION OF WHICH ARE FOR WATER SERVICES (IN TURN REDUCING HOUSEHOLD BILLS)
