Increasingly sustainable trade fair events for Italian Exhibition Group (IEG), which, among the first Companies in the sector at the European level, has managed to add ISO 20121 certification to its rich palmares of firsts in the fields of environment, safety, health protection and sustainability. IEG has certified the Rimini and Vicenza fairgrounds and the organization of Ecomondo, a European show for the circular economy for 25 years, and in early 2023 the process will also cover the Rimini Palacongressi.

For the complex certification process, IEG chose to take advantage of the advice and expertise of the Hera Group, which has always placed sustainability and the circular economy at the center of its strategy. During the certification path, which started in March 2022 and is particularly articulated for a structured reality such as IEG's, the Hera Group provided support on the various documentary, management, organizational and operational aspects to complete under the environmental, economic, and social sustainability profiles the framework necessary to obtain ISO 20121.

Among the best practices introduced with the design of the Ecomondo event were those concerning the absence of carpeting from the aisles inside the pavilions, with an environmental saving of more than 140 tons of carpet per year; the collection and recovery of cigarette butts; the strengthening of electric car charging stations; the accessibility of the district to the disabled; the increase in installed power related to photovoltaic systems; and the involvement of local stakeholders.
