About Romagna Acque

Romagna Acque-Società delle Fonti is a limited company that owns all drinking water sources for civil use in Romagna. The mains network, made up of infrastructure and inter-district, inter-provincial and inter-regional monitoring systems, is used for water catchment, subsequent treatment (purification or other intermediate process) and delivery to the integrated water service provider (in some cases viatransit in water holding tanks).

Water is mainly drawn from healthy, protected areas, partly Unesco World Heritage sites such as the Foreste Casentinesi National Park, Monte Falterona and Campigna where the Ridracoli dam – a major water source – is located. All 3 provinces have many other sources with various types of water. Such water is treated in various purification plants, which provide the mains, supply of Acquedotto della Romagna (Romagna Aqueduct).

The most recently inaugurated plant - a project that includes 40 kilometres of link piping - is located in Standiana (Ravenna) and provides another key piece of infrastructure for Romagna, enabling the system to cope with increasingly frequent droughts. The contribution made by this facility means the area actually has more drinking water than it needs, with modern ultra-filtration technology ensuring it is of the highest quality. It also reduces the need to draw water from aquifers and allows better diversification of sources. The characteristics of the water produced and distributed by the Standiana plant are directly comparable to those of water from the Ridracoli reservoir; indeed, both could be classified as 'low mineralized'.

In 2018 the internal analysis facilities at Romagna Acque - Società delle Fonti S.p.A. ran 355,000 chemical-physical and microbiological checks.
