TWO IMPACT AREAS

TRANSITION TOWARDS A CIRCULAR ECONOMY

SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT OF WATER RESOURCES

PROTECTION OF AIR, LAND, AND BIODIVERSITY

Adoption of a series of actions and objectives relating to the promotion of recycling, reuse and separate waste collection, the reduction of the production of municipal waste and packaging and the use of landfills, and the adoption of a series of practices that improve the efficiency of the use of material resources at cross-sectoral level, including the dissemination of optimisation methods and the improvement of product and process design.

Implementation of activities that guarantee the highest quality standards of water resources in both urban and rural areas and the adoption of a series of water efficiency practices by defining clear and consistent strategic objectives in compliance with the regulatory obligations established at European level. Implementation of national and European strategies and guidelines aimed at protecting biodiversity and the natural ecosystem, with a particular focus on air quality and land use, through the prudent management of processes, facilities, and equipment, and the implementation of preventive measures

The Environment driver brings together the Group’s initiatives aimed at resource regeneration, promoting the circular economy model, and protecting biodiversity as well as air and land. It involves all of the Group’s businesses in the protection and regeneration of the planet’s natural capital and fosters partnerships designed to increase the circularity of the broader socioeconomic system.

These initiatives are implemented across three key areas of impact:

  • Transition towards a circular economy
  • Sustainable management of water resources
  • Protection of air, land, and biodiversity

The Hera Group generates approximately 53% of its shared value EBITDA (483.8 million euros in 2025) through activities in these areas.

In particular, the Group plays a significant role in creating value through activities related to sustainable management of water resources (290.1 million euros) and the transition towards a circular economy (145.1 million euros). In the area of air, land and biodiversity protection (48.6 million euros), the largest share of shared value EBITDA comes from remediation activities.

By analyzing the local, national, European, and global landscape, the Group has defined specific short and medium-term objectives for each impact area of the “Regenerating resources and closing the circle” driver, which are reviewed and updated annually.
