HEA
Hera and Eni for the environment
Born out of a partnership between Hera and Eni, the HEA platform is a new infrastructure for special industrial waste management, developed through the redevelopment of an existing brownfield site.
HEA (Hera ed Eni per l’Ambiente) is a 50:50 joint venture between Eni Rewind, the owner of the site, and Herambiente, a Hera Group company specialising in waste management and environmental remediation. The company was established to develop efficient, integrated solutions for industrial waste management and to promote the recovery of materials and energy.
Located in Ravenna, a well-established industrial area, the platform has been built on a former industrial site that has now been fully redeveloped, providing businesses with a practical solution and advancing a waste management model increasingly built on the principles of proximity and the circular economy.

A modern facility serving businesses and the local area
With an authorised treatment capacity of 60,000 tonnes of industrial waste per year, the platform is operated by Herambiente Servizi Industriali and Eni Rewind and forms part of the network of facilities that Herambiente has developed over the years, complementing infrastructure dedicated to sludge treatment, liquid waste treatment and energy recovery. It represents a significant step forward in terms of the technologies available and of the circular economy.
Proximity in support of supply chains
The facility has been designed to handle special industrial waste, both solid and liquid, bulk and packaged, including waste requiring specific treatment, originating both from Eni Group operations and from the open market, and is also geared to meet the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises.
Through storage, shredding, blending, thickening, consolidation, and repackaging operations, the platform will streamline waste management and maximise material and energy recovery, in line with European guidelines on the circular economy.
Its proximity to the Herambiente industrial waste facility hub will also allow the platform to be integrated into an already well-established treatment and recovery system, improving logistical efficiency for businesses in the area.
The HEA platform is designed to provide a practical solution for those categories of industrial waste that currently struggle to find management options consistent with the proximity principle, helping to make the recovery and treatment system more efficient.
In an industrial context such as Ravenna's, where major production supply chains are well represented, access to modern waste management infrastructure is a key factor in the development and competitiveness of the area.
The platform forms part of a network of facilities that Herambiente has developed in the Ravenna area over the years, making Ravenna one of the leading national reference points for industrial waste management.
The inauguration of the HEA platform
The inauguration marked the launch of the new HEA platform. Among those attending were Michele De Pascale, President of the Emilia-Romagna Region, and Alessandro Barattoni, Mayor of Ravenna, together with representatives of the companies involved in the project: Giuseppe Ricci, Director of Industrial Transformation at Eni; Cristian Fabbri, Executive Chairman of the Hera Group; Orazio Iacono, Chief Executive Officer of Hera Group; Paolo Grossi, Chief Executive Officer of Eni Rewind; and Andrea Ramonda, Chief Executive Officer of Herambiente.
The event brought together institutions, businesses, and local stakeholders to discuss the redevelopment of the Ravenna Environmental Hub and the role of the new HEA platform, an infrastructure dedicated to the sustainable management of industrial waste, material and energy recovery, and the circular economy.
