Management of all systems concerning water catchment, purification and distribution to the end customer (points 1, 2 and 3 in the diagram “Hera's integrated water service”) constitute the so-called mains water service.As regards the civil mains water service (i.e. water intended for human consumption), in 2018 the Hera Group managed:
- 2,059 catchment points1;
- 422 purification plants (excluding additional mains network disinfection points);
- 34,928 kilometres of mains water piping.
At Group level 53.7% of the distribution (piping) network is in plastic, 20.5% in asbestos-cement, 16.6% in steel, 8.5% in cast iron and the remainder in other materials.
The data in the following paragraphs concerns Hera Group’s water mains management in 227 municipalities in Emilia-Romagna, Marche and the North East. For historical and geographical reasons 3 municipalities in Tuscany are also included.
1Includes the 102 collection points managed by Hera out of a total of 422 in the provinces of Forlì-Cesena, Ravenna and Rimini. The remaining 320 collection points are managed by Romagna Acque - Società delle Fonti.
