Research activities for the production of 100% biodegradable plastic, using sugars from waste cellulose as raw material
In 2019, intensive research was carried out in order to develop a technology capable of producing bioplastics from sugars obtained from waste cellulose such as pruning. The activity - at a laboratory scale for now - has led to the production of the first quantities of bioplastics which have characteristics almost similar to those obtained from traditional sugars. The experimental activities have further continued during 2020, with the aim of optimising processes and reducing production costs so to enable an industrial scale development of the technology.
