Lundquist CSR Online Awards Italy published in Il Sole 24 Ore: Hera tops ranking in 2010, followed by Eni and Fiat

Lundquist CSR Online Awards Italy

The Lundquist CSR Online Awards ‘Italy’ 2010 classification has been published today in collaboration with daily newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore. The results show that Bologna-based utility Hera, entering the research for the first time, jumped straight to the top place with 77 points out of 100, beating last year’s winner Eni into second (75.5). Fiat climbs up the classification to reach third position on 73.5 points.

This is the third consecutive year that the Italian ranking assesses how well the country’s companies communicate corporate social responsibility (CSR) on their corporate websites. The classification was expanded to include the 50 biggest companies by market value, compared with 40 last year. Each website was assessed using a set of 77 evaluation criteria (76 in 2009), drawn up on the basis of a survey of more than 250 CSR professionals and sector experts from almost 30 different countries.

The study suggests that most Italian companies must work harder to provide relevant CSR content online and exploit the internet’s potential to create an ongoing relationship and dialogue with stakeholders. The average score of 35.5 out of 100 – despite climbing slightly from 2009 – shows that Italian corporate websites on the whole still fail to provide users with the information and functionality they seek.

The CSR Online Awards is a series of classifications that examines how the internet is used to communicate CSR, covering about 200 companies this year. The Italian ranking will be followed by the publication of the second edition of the ‘Global Leaders’ classification, which took into consideration 91 members of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, and country studies for Austria, Germany, Switzerland and the UK.

The awards cerimony will be held 21 October 2010 in Milan, Unicredit Conference Hall, during the 2nd Global Seminar on Online CSR Communications. Filippo Bocchi (Director of Corporate Social Responsibility al Hera Group) will take a part in the event.
