    Italian Legislative Decree no. 22 of 5 February 1997 defines waste as “any substance or object which the holder disposes of or has decided or is required to dispose of”. This decree classified waste based on its origin, as urban or industrial, and, according to the level of dangerousness, as dangerous or non-dangerous.

     
  • Waste collection centre

    Protected area dedicated to waste collection where the waste is divided into differentiated piles of homogenous waste taken by the owners to the recovery and treatment plants. The operation of waste collection centres is regulated by a decree issued by the Ministry of the Environment, Land and Sea, having consulted the Unified Conference of the State – Region – Town and local authorities mentioned in legislative decree no. 281 of 28th August 1997;

     
  • Waste water

    water coming from municipal and industrial sewage systems that once properly purified can be put back into a normal watercourse again.

     
  • Waste water treatment plant

    Plant for treating sewage.

     
  • WDF

    Waste-Derived Fuel.

     
  • Weight in grams

    Weight of one square metre of paper, expressed in grams.

     
  • Wet organic waste fraction

    Type of waste division. It is made up of kitchen leftovers, leaves, cut branches, etc.
