Professional experience

  • 2009 – 2016 – Senior vice President BASF, responsible for the sub-region of Southern Europe, which in addition to Italy and Spain includes Portugal, Greece and Israel. In Italy and Spain he was CEO for the national controlling company. With roughly 5,000 employees, a sales volume of approximately € 3.6 billion and approximately € 1.6 billion in production value in establishments, for BASF this sub-region is the most important in Europe after Germany.
  • 2005-2009 – BASF Group Vice President responsible for Italy, CEO for the national controlling company, where he led the Group’s expansion with significant commercial and production acquisitions in this country. In the decade leading to 2016, BASF doubled its sales and number of employees in Italy.
  • 2001-2005 – Leader of the BASF Group’s activities in Spain, with responsibilities including the Tarragona plant, the Group’s largest production site in Europe outside Germany.
  • 1997 – 2001 – Appointed Group Vice President, with supervisory responsibilities for marketing and sales in BASF’s Fine chemicals division. In 1999 his responsibilities were extended to the Vitamins division (related to human and animal nutrition, and applications in the cosmetics and pharmaceutical sectors), which also included all of the production plants of this division outside Germany.
  • 1994-1997 – Transferred to Germany, at BASF headquarters, to take on overall responsibility for the commercial area of one sector of the Intermediate chemical product division.
  • 1991- 1994 – Transferred to Switzerland to take on, as General Vice Director, responsibility for the BASF Group’s sales in this country.
  • 1988-1990 – Administrative and financial director of BASF Italia Spa.
  • 1974-1987 – Various experiences covering a range of functions in the administrative and financial area of BASF’s controlling company in Italy.

  • Executive masters courses followed at INSEAD (Fontainbleu ), IMD (Lausanne), IESE (Barcelona), Bocconi (Milan), MIT (New York and Pebble Beach)
