Where does non-recyclable waste go?

Non-separated waste is mostly disposed of in waste to energy plants that produce electricity and heat for district heating systems; only a small amount goes to landfill.

Hera's goal is to lower the percentage of urban waste in landfills even further, in keeping with EU directives that make landfills the waste disposal method of last resort. In 2002 this percentage was 49% of the total. By 2017 it has already dropped to 7%.
