Wholesale energy market

Hera Trading is the Group company that operates in the wholesale gas and electricity markets.

It was created in 2004 by the spin-off of the Procurement Department of sales company Hera Comm to promote the midstream integration of the Group, which was previously only present in sales to end users.

It is therefore a relatively young company, established to take advantage of the opportunities created in European energy markets as a result of liberalisation. It currently boasts 30 employees, most of whom are recent graduates who have grown professionally on the job.

In addition to pursuing margins from electricity and gas trading and from portfolio management services to large energy consumers, it guarantees the procurement of raw materials, the optimisation of the portfolio and the risk management of commodities for Hera Comm.

It is also responsible for the commercial management of thermoelectric assets held or invested in by the Group.

Hera Trading operates at the Italian Virtual Exchange Point for gas and at the main European hubs (Baumgarten in Austria, NCG in Germany and TTF in the Netherlands), while in the electricity sector, in addition to being on the Italian electricity exchange, it operates in the French, Swiss, German, Austrian and Slovenian markets.

With regard to the gas portfolio, Hera Trading can count on a particularly efficient mix based on short-term spot contracts that reflect the best conditions available at the time.

Hera Trading recently signed a long-term agreement with the Shah Deniz consortium to buy gas from Azerbaijan via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), with supplies expected to arrive by 2019/2020.

Regarding electricity, the Group has favoured a balanced, flexible mix of supplies, involving purchases on the Italian electricity exchange, imports from bordering countries and some autonomous power generation.

Hera Trading has EFET agreements with all the major counterparts in the European gas and electricity markets, as well as with the major Italian operators.
