Bologna, the last Gasometer
A video looking back at our history.
The gasometer, built in 1927, was in operation until 1984.
Now it is an industrial archaeological exhibit, towering 50 metres above the Hera Group headquarters.
The 8mm images were generously provided by the National Archive of Family Film (Archivio Nazionale del Film di Famiglia) of the Angelo Marzadori Foundation.

Hera was established on November 1st 2002 through the merger of 12 similar companies operating in neighbouring areas in northern Italy, with the aim of improving the quality of services to citizens in essential sectors such as energy, water and environmental services, and of achieving the significant synergies and efficiencies made possible through this transaction.
In June 2003 Hera was floated on the placing almost 44.5%of its share capital.
The Hera story is characterised by a solid expansion track record: Hera external growth continued in last 3 years contributing to double group Ebitda. The merger of Agea and the acquisition of CE of Ravenna (a special waste plant) in 2004, the merger with Meta, the acquisition of the Electricity distribution network in Modena Province, Aspes Multiservizi, Geat, SAT. Nowadays Hera leads sector consolidation process and provides 2 mln people. The company pursues significant market expansion through the territorial consolidation in neighbouring areas in order to enlarge its customer base. In 2006 Hera increased its stake in Aspes Multiservizi (multi-utility of Pesaro) until 49.79% and acquired a 46.5% stake in SAT S.p.A. (multi-utility operating in Modena Province). In 2007, Hera approved the merger between Aspes and Megas (Urbino Province), the birth of Marche Multiservizi (Hera stake is 41.8%) and the merger of SAT S.p.A.
The Group is operating in 5 SBU and the Hera balanced business portfolio allows to reduce its results exposure to regulatory risks, change in macro-scenario and seasonability effects: Waste (collection, disposal and treatment of urban waste, under concession until 2011, and special waste. Hera owns 72 plants of which 7 are WTE plants), Water (distribution and selling of fresh water, sewerage and treatment of waste water, under concession until 2022), Gas (distribution, under concession until 2011, and selling activities), Electricity (distribution, under concession until 2030, and selling), Other (District Heating and Public Lighting).
The founding partners of Hera include 139 Municipalities in the provinces of Bologna, Ravenna, Rimini and Forlì-Cesena, ranging from Bologna to the Adriatic sea. At the moment Hera public shareholders are 183 municipalities of the Bologna, Ferrara, Modena, Ravenna, Forlì and Imola provinces.
