  • Joint Implementation (JI) (Energy glossary)

A flexible mechanism created by the Kyoto Protocol which allows a company belonging to an industrialised country listed in Annex 1 of the Protocol to set up a project to bring about reductions in emissions of greenhouse gases in another industrialised country listed in Annex 1. In this way the two countries can agree to pool the emission shares obtained on the basis of the emissions prevented.
