Herambiente, 75% owned by Hera S.p.A. and 25% owned by Ambiente Arancione Cooperatief U.A., manages all Hera Group treatment, recycling and disposal plants for urban and special waste, as well as handling commercial operations and managing the company’s shareholdings in environmental companies.

It is the Italian leader in the waste disposal sector, with around 5.1 million tonnes disposed of in 2009, and also boasts the largest plant infrastructure in Italy consisting of around 73 plants (waste-to-energy plants, selection plants, composting plants, chemical-physical plants, landfills etc.), all of which ISO 14001 certified and over a third of which covered by EMAS registration (which will be extended to all plants by 2011).

The company provides its customers a complete range of disposal alternatives as well as full service and environmental decontamination integrated services.

With 7 waste-to-energy plants, 4 of which recently constructed and another currently undergoing expansion, Herambiente’s plants boasted a total electricity production capacity of 349,227 MWh in 2008, with energy recovery efficiency levels in line with European regulations for classification as recovery plants, and with the lowest emission levels among similar plants.
