So as to protect the environment and keep up-to-date with current environmental protection rules, Hera has obtained the necessary certifications for all the plants it manages.

It was in 2003 that the Environment Division* of Hera S.p.A. started out on a course of progressive ISO 14001 certification of all its plants, which was later added to the broader certification project of the entire Hera Group.

The aim of the standards is to contribute to protecting the environment and preventing pollution in a way that is systematic and consistent with the needs of the socio-economic context.

UNI EN ISO 14001 shares the general management guidelines with the ISO 9001 Quality System precepts, which are:

• Commitment and policy: define one's own environmental policy and ensure commitment to its Environmental Management System (SGA)
• Planning: come up with a plan for implementing one's environmental policy
• Implementation: develops support capabilities and mechanisms necessary for implementing the environmental policy and attaining the objectives and goals
• Measurement and assessment: measure, monitor and assess one's own environmental performance and undertake the relevant corrective actions
• Review and improvement: continuously review and improve one's SGA, with the aim of improving its overall environmental performance.

The following are certified UNI ISO EN 14001 as of today:

• 18 Hera Environment Division* plant sites
• Hera S.p.A.
• All Territorial Operative Structure
